Voidling Bound Beginner Guide

Everything a new player needs to know. Read this before you start your first save file.

Step 1 — Pick the Right Starter

The starter choice is permanent for that save file. Pick the Fire starter (Emberpup) unless you have a strong preference. The Fire line has:

  • Highest single-target DPS in the early game
  • Cheap evolution path (only 1 mid evolution)
  • Strong matchups in the first biome (Cinder Wastes)
  • A final evolution (Infernalisk) that stays relevant in endgame

The Water starter is the runner-up. The Nature starter is the weakest of the three but evolves into the best support (Worldroot).

Step 2 — Your First 2 Hours

  1. Complete the tutorial cave. It teaches the core combat loop and rewards you with your first Voidling.
  2. Catch every Voidling you see in the starter biome. Don't worry about stats — just expand your roster.
  3. Focus XP on your starter. Get it to level 22 to evolve it to Pyrowyrm.
  4. Do every side quest in the starter biome. The rewards include 2,000 Mutagen, which is exactly what you need for Hatchery Tier 2.
  5. Defeat the first boss (Ashen Colossus). This unlocks the next biome and gives you the Fire Mantle.
  6. Build Hatchery Tier 2 (10,000 Mutagen) as soon as you can. This unlocks the breeding pen.

Step 3 — Build Your Core Team

You will spend most of the game with a 3-Voidling team. The recommended core for the entire game is:

  • Tank: Abyssalix (final Water evolution). Unkillable and reflects projectiles.
  • DPS: Infernalisk (final Fire evolution). Highest single-target damage in early-to-mid game.
  • Support: Worldroot (final Nature evolution). The best healer in the game.

This trio will carry you to the post-game. Replace individual members with Void Stalker and Voidweaver in the late game for harder fights.

Step 4 — Mutation Priority

Don't spread your Mutagen thin. Unlock mutations in this order:

  1. Power Surge (5,000) — biggest offensive upgrade
  2. Verdant Heart (5,000) — biggest support upgrade
  3. Iron Shell (4,000) — tanks become unkillable
  4. Swift Feet (3,000) — cheap and universally useful
  5. Mana Tide (6,500) — required for endgame

See the full mutations list for details.

Step 5 — Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't invest mutations in base-form Voidlings. They will be replaced.
  • Don't skip Golden Eggs. They save 6-10 hours of leveling per Voidling.
  • Don't try to catch every species on your first playthrough. The roster is huge — pick 4-5 favorites and max them out.
  • Don't fight the Void Stalker Prime until you have Light Voidlings. The fight is unwinnable without them.
  • Don't ignore the demo. It carries progress over to the full game.
